Someone asked me yesterday if anyone reads my blog. She seemed shocked when I told her people all around the world have visited this blog. Most come from the USA and other English speaking countries. Others come from countries I’ve never even heard of, and yet, someone in those countries has heard of me. What an amazing thing the internet is!
Here is a map showing where my visitors originate:

Pink shows visitors, and the darker the pink, the more visitors. Apparently, if I am reading the map correctly, the only places from which no visitors have come are Svalbard, Turkmenistan, Western Sahara, Guinea-Bissau, Chad, and Central African Republic. I find this utterly astonishing. Not to be disingenuous, but I simply can’t imagine being interesting enough to attract so many different people.
Here is the incredible list of countries where visitors have come from. (The number represents visitations only, not views, since often people click on more than one blog entry, and each click is a view):

I didn’t compile this list — WordPress, the blog platform I use compiled it. I don’t know why there is a listing for European Union when each of the countries is listed separately. Maybe those are the visits where the exact country couldn’t be identified.
Thanks for the list of EU countries. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them all listed. Very interesting.

You really need to work on something that will attract Central Africa, Pat. Then you will have conquered the world! LOL

Absolutely!! I wonder what I could write that will attract those folks. I’ll have to do some research.

Greenland’s considered a separate country? I thought it was part of Denmark!
September 26, 2020 at 8:13 am
Apparently, it’s a separate country within the Kingdom of Denmark. Who knew? I didn’t. I had to look it up.

Funny you mention Svalbard. I ran across it in some other article today about a seed vault located inside a mountain there. All this time I thought it was a fictional place. It is named in the fantasy series His Dark Materials which includes The Golden Compass which was made into a movie, and 2 book sequels, so I assumed the author made it up. How interesting to learn otherwise.

Wow! That seed vault is so cool! Both literally and figuratively. I’d never heard of it. Chances of getting anyone to look at my blog from there are almost nil — only 2,000 people live there, but maybe if someone ever goes visit the seed vault, maybe they will visit me while they are there.
As for His Dark Materials, I recently head of the trilogy, and have it on my TBR list.

Without giving away too much, HDM has a lot of layers. I think it needs a few readings to get all of them. I loved The Golden Compass and in fact read a galley edition of it when I worked in a bookstore oh so many years ago. It’s so lovingly detailed, I’m right there. The sequel is much different in tone, new characters introduced, who join up with the first book’s protagonist and carry over to the third book. I reread the series about 18 months ago for the third time. With new vision from doing grief work, I uncovered layers I had missed the first 2 times I read the series. I’d be interested to see what you think, one day.

The local library has The Golden Compass. If it hasn’t been checked out, I’ll get it tomorrow.
